Dear Members
The 8th Annual General Meeting of Friends of Pyrmont Point Incorporated is to be held on Tuesday 29 November 2011 at 6.00 pm in The Station, Bowman Street, Pyrmont.
Following is the annual Detailed Statement of Financial Position and the Income and Expenditure Statement for year ended 30 June 2011 together with pro-forma nomination form for election to office bearer and committee positions.. Nominations need to be moved and seconded by two members of the Association, accepted in writing by the nominee and in the Secretary’s hands by Tuesday 22 November 2011.

The 5th AGM of the Friends of Pyrmont Point Inc. was held on Monday 8 December 2008 in the Community Hall in Pyrmont.
The President, Drew Morrow, reported on the activities of the Association over the past year.
The new park is nearing completion and according to the builder, Ford Civil, will be finished towards the end of February 2009, weather permitting.

The 4th AGM of the Friends of Pyrmont Point Inc. was held on Monday 10 December 2007 in the Community Hall in Pyrmont.
The President, Drew Morrow, reported on the activities of the Association over the past year. There has been constant behind the scenes’ activity over the course of the year, mainly dealing with D.A. for the new park. Work on the park has now started and is progressing well. The approved D.A. reflects the majority wishes of the community achieved by the Council’s open, comprehensive and democratic community consultation process.

The Rules under which the Friends of Pyrmont operate are The Model Rules for Incorporated Associations under the Associations Incorporation Act 1984.
These Rules include the conditions for nomination of members to the Association's various office holder positions and to the Committee of Management.

Lord Mayor moves to limit building on Water Police site

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore has responded swiftly to calls by Friends of Pyrmont Point and others to limit building development on the new park planned for the former Water Police site.
In a strongly worded statement today the Lord Mayor stated “I am committed to providing the largest possible area of high quality open space. Any buildings on the Water Police Site should support its primary role as public parkland.” Clover Moore added that she has asked the City CEO to prepare designs for a smaller café/kiosk, toilets and shade cover with the building closer to the escarpment to maximise open space.
The Council’s endorsed master plan for the park included a single building housing a café/kiosk and a multipurpose room.
However, the subsequent DA on public exhibition contained a cluster of buildings including a large multipurpose room capable of handling functions for a hundred people. Local community alarm at the effective alienation of part of the park for private functions, potential noise, anti-social behaviour and parking problems quickly spread.
At a local community meeting City councillors Marcelle Hoff, John McInerney and Shane Mallard announced that they would oppose buildings of the scale proposed in the development application and would continue to support the remainder of the plans for the park so that work could start on the park as soon as possible. More recently councillors Chris Harris and Verity Firth have also announced their opposition to the building.
The statement by the Lord Mayor effectively ends the possibility of a building complex capable of handling function on the new park.

Water Police site buildings fuel community concern
18 January 2006
The Development Application for the park on the former Water Police Site now shows three buildings which have potential for use as user-pay facilities capable of holding functions.
This plan contrasts with the buildings in the Council endorsed Master Plan for the site which shows just one building housing three pods including what appears to be a modest café/kiosk.
The DA is to be determined by Council in February.
The Friends of Pyrmont Point strongly opposes this over-the-top development plan which we believe will seriously reduce the usable open space available to the community.
Read FoPP letter sent on 18 January to Lord Mayor Clover Moore opposing this latest development.
